There's rarely a quiet night at Union, where the bar buzzes with the neighborhood's coolest residents and couples on dates fill the darkly lighted dining room's leather banquettes. Despite all the show, the menu keeps things relatively down-to-earth with tender-as-can-be burgers, spice-rubbed grilled steak, and thick, crispy fries. Brunch is served weekends.

Not the most memorable South End restaurant out there (Franklin Cafe, Toro, Sage, Icarus, and Hamersley's are more essential area eateries), but a good solid choice here nonetheless. Capable food and service in an attractive space, worth considering. It's much closer to take the Silver Line to Union Park (drops you right there) than do the several blocks walk from Back Bay/South End on the Orange Line.
