There's rarely a quiet night at Union, where the bar buzzes with the neighborhood's coolest residents and couples on dates fill the darkly lighted dining room's leather banquettes. Despite all the show, the menu keeps things down to earth, with golden fried calamari, succulent chicken cooked under a brick (which flattens the bird and makes it super crispy and moist), and small iron skillets of warm corn bread served at every table. Brunch is available on weekends.

Not the most memorable South End restaurant out there (Franklin Cafe, Toro, Sage, Icarus, and Hamersley's are more essential area eateries), but a good solid choice here nonetheless. Capable food and service in an attractive space, worth considering. It's much closer to take the Silver Line to Union Park (drops you right there) than do the several blocks walk from Back Bay/South End on the Orange Line.

For a very fun and yummy evening, try Union. The pulse of this place is fun, cocktails are delicious, and food a 4 out of 5. Love the calamari app with the cod as a main. The later the reservation, the more 'clubby' it will feel. Enjoy!
