Fodor's Review

Jamaica Plain's postage stamp–size, candlelit boîte (there's a sister restaurant in Cambridge) is an enchanting mix of Gallic elegance and chummy neighborhood revelry–-both in the atmosphere and the food. Simple but high-quality dishes such as pepper-rubbed hanger steak and house-made pasta with wild mushrooms—followed by a single serving of "The Perfect Cheese"—seamlessly seal the deal. The $48 tasting menu, $36 if you're a vegetarian or vegan (vegan requires 24-hour advance notice), makes ordering easy. Although regulars usually reserve a table online or via the restaurant's answering machine, the stylish, laid-back bar always has 24 seats available on a walk-in basis, where you can enjoy the full dinner menu or bar bites in a warmly appointed room with reclaimed wood and exposed brick.
