Colonnade Hotel

120 Huntington Ave., Boston, Massachusetts, 02116, USA

Following a recent makeover, the Colonnade showcases clean, modern environs injected with hues of khaki, chocolate, and chrome. Guest-friendly touches now include 40-plus-inch flat-panel TVs, DVDs, and alarm clock/MP3 players, plus extendable reading lights and high-tech coffeemakers. The look is slightly masculine but quite comfy and clean, with pillowtop mattresses, high-thread-count sheets, and round tables perfect for both eating and working. The floor-to-ceiling windows (that, eureka!, actually open) are triple-glazed to keep out the traffic noise of Huntington Avenue. In summer the recently renovated roof-deck pool with a full bar, all-day menus, weekly yoga, and private cabanas available for rent is the place to be, and draws a mix of local glitterati and lithe European vacationers. As an added perk, the hotel lends out its mini fleet of cute, if not quite convenient, Smart cars. For your gastronomic needs, Brasserie Jo is an authentic French brasserie with fantastic salads (get the niçoise).
