Fodor's Review

Thanks to a $25-million dollar makeover in 2013 that included a spruced-up facade, new windows, and updated room decor, the Colonnade went from an '80s brass-and-mahogany showcase to a clean, modern environs injected with hues of khaki, chocolate, and chrome. Guest-friendly touches now include flat-panel TVs, DVDs, and alarm clock/MP3 players, plus extendable reading lights and high-tech coffeemakers. The look is slightly masculine but quite comfy and clean, with pillow-top mattresses, high-thread-count sheets, and round tables perfect for both eating and working. The floor-to-ceiling windows (that, eureka!, actually open) are triple-glazed to keep out the traffic noise of Huntington Avenue. In summer the roof-deck pool is the place to be, and draws a mix of local glitterati and lithe European vacationers. As an added perk, the hotel lends out its mini fleet of cute, if not quite convenient, Smart cars. For your gastronomic needs, Brasserie Jo is an authentic French brasserie with fantastic salads (get the niçoise).
