Chandler Inn

26 Chandler St., Boston, Massachusetts, 02116, USA

There's big news at the Chandler: it's almost all new thanks to a 2012 update by big-shot local designers Dennis Duffy and Eric Roseff, who redid 40 of the 56 guest rooms in a fresh, contemporary style and with amenities such as iPod docks, plasma TVs, and marble bathrooms with walk-in glass showers. The gay-friendly inn sits on one of the South End's prettiest streets, and is easy walking distance from shops, restaurants, the T, and Back Bay Station. As far as South End lodging goes, this may be your best hotel bet, despite slightly cramped quarters. Try to snag a sun-lighted corner room with a number ending in 08.

PROS

  • can't beat the price
  • friendly staff
  • the South End is a prime location for foodies

CONS

  • area parking is brutally hard to find or expensive
  • rooms can be noisy
