Fodor's Review

It's not just its dimensions—27 buildings over 13 acres, with more than 250,000 square feet of gallery space—that are impressive at Mass MoCA. The nation's largest center for contemporary visual and performing arts is one of the finest such facilities in the world, a major draw for its art shows, music and dance presentations, and film screenings. The enormous space in the main gallery allows for massive exhibits that wouldn't fit anywhere else, like Xu Bing's Phoenix: two gigantic birds with 90-foot wingspans. The building, formerly the home of the Sprague Electrical Company and still a worthwhile sight itself, also includes studios, cafés, shops, and the inspiring Kidspace gallery and studio.
