Modeled after a castle in Scotland, this supremely elegant 1902 manor house sits amid nearly 117 acres of manicured lawns and woodlands. Lavishly decorated rooms in the main house have hand-carved four-poster beds, overstuffed chaise lounges, and Victorian bathrooms. The rooms in the carriage house are well appointed but can't compete with the formal grandeur of the main house. However, they're close to the spa and pool, so that's the trade-off. (They're also less expensive.) The restaurant serves upscale country-house fare—no cream or heavy sauces, light on the butter. A typical meal might feature Long Island duck breast with melon-basil salad, beef tenderloin with pea puree, and Key lime soufflé. Pros: the spa's hot tub is stunning, Kiehl's toiletries in the bathroom, property is exquisitely maintained. Cons: some room configurations make it difficult to watch TV in bed.
