Topia Inn

Fodor's Review:

Park your shoes, and your toiletries, at the door. This Adams property, which opened in 2007 just off the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail, is the greenest inn in the Berkshires. Innkeepers Nana Simopoulous and Caryn Heilman transformed a derelict downtown Colonial into an LEED-rated marvel, with a solar hot water system, soybean oil heating, and natural clay walls. Beds and linens are organic cotton, and the innkeepers provide non-toxic toiletries, so the inn is friendly to guests with chemical sensitivities. Rooms are decorated by the innkeepers' artsy pals; themes include Morocco and Retro '60s. A fun quirk: Some rooms have spa tubs with colored lights (chromatherapy, it's called), so you can have a little light show as you bathe. Pros: organic toiletries in guest rooms include deodorant, hairspray, and toothpaste; organic breakfast; steam showers and spa tubs. Cons: located next door to a bar, some of the room designs aren't that well-executed, neighborhood is dreary.
