At 13 acres, the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Arts is nation's largest center for contemporary performing and visual arts. The 19th-century complex of 27 buildings once housed the now-defunct Sprague Electric Co. Six of the factory buildings have been transformed into more than 250,000 square feet of galleries, studios, performance venues, cafés, and shops. Its size enables the museum to display monumentally scaled works such as Robert Rauschenberg's ¼ Mile or 2 Furlong Piece. Exhibits and performances include everything from art shows and concerts to dance and film presentations.
