Museum of the Gilded Age

Fodor's Review:

Built in 1893, Ventfort Hall was the summer "cottage" of Sarah Morgan, the sister of financier J. P. Morgan. Inside is the hall is this museum, which explores the role of Lenox and the Berkshires as the definitive mountain retreat during that fabled era. Since the late '90s a top restoration team has been hard at work repairing the elegant exterior brickwork and roofing, the ornate interior paneling and grand staircase, and the gabled carriage house. Lively, information-packed tours offer a peek into the lifestyles of Lenox's super-rich "cottage class."
