Chef-owner Michael Ballon wins raves for his simple-but-elegant cuisine and masterful hand with fresh local produce. Local artwork, hardwood floors and sleek furnishings create an understated interior—a perfect backdrop for sautéed sea scallops with wild ramps and garlic sauce, local shad roe with bacon and onion, and warm duck salad with cashews and Asian slaw. Other things to love about Castle Street Café: The fabulous wine list, the bread basket (featuring a warm potato-onion loaf from Berkshire Mountain Bakery), and nightly jazz at the Celestial Bar (no cover charge).

I like the food at Castle Street very much. It tends towards fresh, and unpretentious dishes. The atmosphere is a little bit noisy, but casual. And the price is better than similar restaurants in the area, a very good value.
