$$$-$$$$, Lenox
Fodor's Review:
The 1912 summer cottage of Harley Proctor (as in Proctor and Gamble) has experienced some ups and downs during its tenure as a country inn. But under the skillful direction of innkeepers Fabrizio and Rosemary Chiariello, it looks better than ever. Rooms come in a variety of configurations and styles, most with working fireplaces, detailed moldings, and plush carpeting. In the restaurant ($$$-$$$$; closed Mon.; no lunch weekdays) you might dine on sautéed medallions of venison or baked acorn squash with a wild rice-cranberry stuffing and roasted-chestnut ragout. The restaurant offers a light late-night menu during the Tanglewood season. The inn also makes sublimely delicious picnic lunches. You can sample dozens of rare grappas and single-malt whiskies in the bar.
