Fodor's Expert Review Baer's Den Bakery and Deli
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Surprisingly homey and inviting for a deli, the Baer's Den has a wood floor, tin ceiling, piano, pellet stove, and curated art shows on the walls. Amiable owners chat with the customers over the counter while serving up freshly-made sandwiches on breads mostly baked on-site. You can smell the rye bread while you sink your teeth into the hearty corned beef Reuben. Among the rotating soups du jour is a thick and rich fish chowder with a subtle sweetness. Get there early if you want to try the famed Sam Adams Chili before the day's supply runs out, and get there early for lunch: they close at 2 pm on weekdays and 11 am on Saturday.
