Gateways Inn and Restaurant

51 Walker St., Lenox, Massachusetts, 01240, USA

The 1912 summer cottage of Harley Procter (as in, Procter & Gamble) has had numerous owners during its tenure as a country inn. Current innkeepers Michele and Eiran Gazit have put in thousands of dollars of renovations, and today it looks better than ever. Guest rooms and suites come in various configurations and styles; most have working fireplaces, detailed moldings, and plush carpeting. The restaurant, which offers late-night dining in summer, was a favorite hangout of painter Norman Rockwell in the days before the gorgeous piano bar and its comfortable seating were installed.

PROS

  • well-appointed rooms
  • great location in the heart of Lenox
  • late-night nibbles in the piano bar

CONS

  • lots of stairs
  • weddings sometimes take over the lobby
