16 Blantyre Rd., off U.S. 20, Lenox, Massachusetts, 01240, USA
Modeled after a castle in Scotland, this supremely elegant 1902 manor house sits amid nearly 117 acres of manicured lawns and woodlands. The lavishly decorated rooms in the main house have hand-carved four-poster beds, overstuffed chaise longues, and Victorian bathrooms. Rooms in the carriage house are well-appointed, and though they can't compete with the formal grandeur of the main house, they are close to the spa and pool and are less expensive. The restaurant serves updated country-house fare—no cream or heavy sauces, light on the butter. Typical dishes might include Long Island duck breast with melon-basil salad, beef tenderloin with pea purée, and Key lime soufflé.
