Frederick and Western Maryland Places

New Market

The name of the town is a little misleading, since most visitors come here seeking the old, not the new. New Market touts itself as Maryland's antiques capital. Though no longer a quiet country hamlet, the town's quaint center has managed to escape suburban sprawl. About a dozen fine antiques shops line Main Street. A day of shopping can take you through several centuries of furniture and a transatlantic tour of accessories. In early December, carolers roam the town and horse-drawn carriages take visitors past the festively decorated historic homes.
