  Tulips at Sherwood Gardens

  It is pretty amazing to think that this park -transformed in spring around Mother's Day with 70,000 to 80,000 tulips - while NOT a public park, is made free and open to all. No charge for admission, no charge to park, no odd hours. The Guilford community through the nonprofit entity Stratford Green actually maintains and operates this park. This park at tulip time really is a slice of Heaven for all ages. I am telling you - even the AIR smells sweeter at tulip time. If you go once, you will go back. Also, here is a secret: Memorial weekend Saturday they let everyone come and dig up the bulbs for something like 30 cents a bulb. Starts early 7 am and they do not really advertise it - somehow people just know to come with money trowels and buckets - it is a secret word of mouth thing has been going on for many decades. The Guilford community website usually has something about it - otherwise you have to be in on it!
