Rusty Scupper

Rusty Scupper Review

A tourist favorite, the Rusty Scupper undoubtedly has the best view along the waterfront; sunset here is magical, with the sun sinking slowly into the harbor as lights twinkle on the city's skyscrapers. The interior is decorated with light wood and windows from floor to ceiling; the house specialty is seafood, particularly the jumbo lump crab cake, but the menu also includes beef, chicken, and pasta. Reservations are essential on Friday and Saturday, and service can be spotty.

After a very nice dinner celebrating a family milestone, we were presented a bill that included an 18% gratuity. That amount, I thought, was more than generous. After the bill was signed and as we were leaving the restaurant we were stopped and told a mistake had been made. The gratuity should have instead been 20%. We were asked if we would hand over our credit cards - again - to have the bill re-run. I described the situation in terms of equine excrement. The waiter eventually relented, and we left on a very sour note after what should have been a very happy affair. I cannot believe supposed professionals would come back to patrons who have just spent over $1100 and try and fleece them out of $22 more. The act was below lame.
They serve good food, but so do many other places. I will not return.
