Chiapparelli's
Chiapparelli's Review
At this neighborhood favorite, families come to celebrate milestones—baptisms, communions, graduations, and such. Pictures of the Baltimore landscape adorn the redbrick walls, and some white-cloth tables overlook one of Little Italy's main streets. The reasonably priced pasta selections rely on standards, but there's also more upscale fare such as chicken Giuseppe: breaded chicken breast with spinach, crabmeat, and provolone in a lemon wine sauce.

Had high hopes of an enjoyable meal in Little Italy. Went to Chiaparelli's on a Monday at about 3:30. My wife and I ordered 2 entrees (Chicken Giuseppi & Vitello Leo) which came with the house salad. The restaurant was 0 for 3.
1 - The salad was a mushy blend of lettuse, red onions and bland feta cheese. Ecerything was overly coated in oil and extremely bland. My wife asked for additional red vinegar, which we rec'd. We heard another couple ask for some balsamic vinegar but the waitress said they didn't have that.
2 - Both entrees were swimming in a liquid having the consistency of soup. It was apparant that the 'chef' did not reduce the liquid to the consistency of the sauces specified on the menu. In addition the veal must have been put in the oven to keep it warm since the tips were overly crisp and had that burned taste.
The restaurant was not busy at all so you would think that the 'chef' would have had the time to reduce the sauces correctly.
I am hoping that maybe, because it was a Monday, the 'real' chef was off and some trainee was manning the kitchen because none of the food was worth the ridiculous prices charged. In retrospect, I should have had everything returned to the kitchen but I really don't like to do that. The next best thing is to protect others from the same experience.
Good eating to all. -
