A couple of blocks up from the Inner Harbor, this bare-bones spot serves simple, delicious Afghan fare. Order at the counter -- start with the pumpkin appetizer, then try the lamb or beef kebab, which comes with salad, rice, and fresh pita bread, or a vegetarian plate that might include chickpeas, lentils, and okra -- and grab a table. It's a good alternative to the pricier options by the water for lunch or an early dinner (it closes at 8 PM).

Afghan Kabob in Baltimore was too good to last! Its building has been torn down, and we were unable to find its new location (if any) on Sat. Checking 411, we were given a 1019 Light St. address, but that spot is occupied by a Thai restaurant.
