Fodor's Review

Local youth Rufus Porter became a leading folk artist in the early 1800s, painting landscape and harbor murals on the walls of New England homes, like this museum's red Cape Cod–style house, which bears unsigned murals by Porter (or one of his apprentices). Also an inventor, Porter founded Scientific American magazine. Early issues are on display, as are some of his inventions and miniature portraits. By 2016, the museum plans to include an 1840s-era house at 121 Main Street.
