Height of Land Review
A direct but still stunningly scenic route from Bethel to Rangeley is U.S. 2 east to the twin towns of Rumford and Mexico, where Route 17 heads north to Oquossoc, about an hour's drive. The high point of this route, part of the Rangeley Lakes National Scenic Byway, is Height of Land, with its unforgettable views of mountains and the island-studded blue mass of Mooselookmeguntic Lake. In Oquossoc, turn right on Route 4 towards Rangeley.
