Many chambers of commerce in the region distribute free copies of the pamphlet "Maine's Washington County: Just Off the Beaten Path." It's several cuts above the usual tourist promotion booklet, but chatting with locals is often the best way to find out about lesser-known trails and beaches, as well as which restaurants are worth a stop.
