At the tip of Beals Island, the Nature Conservancy's Great Wass Island Preserve is a 1,540-acre preserve where you can find stunted pines and raised peat bogs. Trails lead through the woods and emerge onto the undeveloped coast, where you may spot gray seals as you make your way among the rocks and boulders. Parking is limited. No pets are allowed. If it's been raining it may be too wet for hiking here.
