Fodor's Review:

A bright yellow exterior invites a stop at this delightful inn perched on the banks of the Machias River. Inside you can find hammered-tin ceilings and lots of hand-carved wood. The spacious guest rooms have antique furnishings and colorful quilts. The upstairs suite in the coach house has a private balcony overlooking the river. The restaurant ($$$-$$$$) has maintained its excellent reputation. The chef brings a special flair to traditional dishes such as pork served with a pistachio crust. His signature dish is salmon stuffed with crabmeat and shrimp. In summer the menu includes an updated take on the chef salad. Try pairing it with standout appetizers like hake cakes and red tuna wontons. Ask for a table in the intimate sunroom. Pros: Suites a good value, garden overlooks river, walk to riverside park. Con: Small grounds.
