Fingers of land extend into Whiting Bay and Broad and Burnt coves at the 888-acre Cobscook Bay State Park, a great place to spend the afternoon. You won't be disappointed if you arrive at low tide—the islands rising from the mud flats after the water has receded have an ethereal beauty. A short hiking trail to a rock crest with views of Whiting Bay links with a longer trail. There are 106 primitive campsites.
