You won't find fast-food chains Way Down East except for a few in Calais and Machias. If you don't have time to stop at a restaurant, you can grab a sandwich or slice of pizza at most convenience stores. Your only choice for a sit-down meal is often one of the many family establishments serving breakfast, lunch, and dinner. All of these places have massive menus heavy on the seafood (it's not all fried), and many have added items like wraps and Cobb salads. Save room for the desserts, often made right on the premises. Upscale dining establishments serving more creative cuisine are scattered throughout the region; Machias has an impressive cluster. Don't be surprised if you find that the best restaurant is in the inn where you're staying.
