Getting Here and Around

Maine has two major international airports, Portland International Jetport and Bangor International Airport, to get you to or close to your coastal destination. Manchester-Boston Regional Airport in New Hampshire is about 45 minutes away from the southern end of the Maine coastline. Boston's Logan Airport is the only truly international airport in the region; it's about 90 minutes south of the Maine border.

Amtrak offers regional service from Boston to Portland via its Downeaster line that originates at Boston's North Station and makes four stops in Maine: Wells, Saco, Old Orchard Beach (seasonal), and finally Portland. Greyhound and Concord Trailways also offer bus service from Boston to many towns along the Maine coast.

All that said, once you are here the best way to experience the winding back roads of the craggy Maine coast is in a car. There are miles and miles of roads far from the larger towns that no bus services, and you won't want to miss discovering your own favorite ocean vista while on a scenic drive.
