Blair Hill Inn Review

Beautiful gardens and a hilltop location with marvelous views over the lake distinguish this 1891 estate, as do the mansion's fine antiques, plush bedding, and elegant baths, most with oversize tubs (one is an original claw-foot). Guest rooms are spacious; all have sitting areas and four have fireplaces. Owners Ruth and Dan McLaughlin delight in offering relaxed luxury and thoughtful extras, like arranging guided day trips and providing snacks. Hailed as one of Maine's top inns, its reservations-only restaurant is also acclaimed. Open Thursday through Saturday from mid-June to mid-October, the prix-fixe five-course dinner ($$$$) creatively incorporates seasonal items from the inn's large gardens. Arrive early to enjoy cocktails—and that view—on the veranda or the swank bar connected to it.

    Heaven on a Hill.

    We have been touring New England, arriving from the U.K.each Autumn, for the last seven years.

    The Blair Hill Inn is the only Inn in the whole of Maine,Vermont and New Hampshire that we return to each and every year.

    The Inn is immaculate,spotlessly clean,comfortable and beautifully furnished.

    The views overlooking Moosehead Lake from almost every room are quite spectacular and will remain with you for ever.

    Also the food served each day at Breakfast and the 5 Course Dinner in the restaurant each evening is superb.

    Finally, we have to mention the Inn's owners, Dan and Ruth McLaughlin. They really are the nicest couple of people that you could ever wish to meet and nothing is too much trouble for them.

    Over the last 15 years, they have created something quite unique here. They are superb hosts and make all their guests feel special.

    If we could sum this Inn up in just a few words, it would be ...that this is a Gem of a place !
