Young's Lobster Pound

Young's Lobster Pound Review

The place looks more like a corrugated-steel fish cannery than a restaurant, but it is one of the best places to have an authentic Maine lobster dinner. Young's sits right on the edge of the water, across the harbor from downtown Belfast. When you first walk in, you'll see tanks and tanks of live lobsters of varying size. The traditional meal here is the Shore Dinner: fish or clam chowder or lobster stew; steamed clams or mussels; a 1½-pound boiled lobster; corn on the cob; and chips. Order your dinner at the counter, then find a table inside or on the deck. Surf-and-turf dinners and hot dogs are sold, too. It's BYOB. If you are enjoying your lobster at one of the outside tables, don't leave the table with no one to watch it. Seagulls are notorious thieves—and they LOVE lobster.
