Bufflehead Cove Inn

Fodor's Review:

On the Kennebunk River at the end of a winding dirt road, this gray-shingle B&B sits amid quiet country fields and apple trees. Surprisingly, however, it's only five minutes from Dock Square. Rooms in the main house are outfitted with a funky mix of antiques, Far Eastern, and eclectic art. The Hideaway Suite, with a two-sided gas fireplace, king-size bed, and large whirlpool tub, overlooks the river. The Garden Studio has a fireplace and offers the most privacy. It's a great place to bring your kayaks or canoe for paddling trips right from the dock; or simply opt to gaze upon the river from the expansive wraparound porch. The roomy cottage, set back a ways from the main house, has a large private deck with generous water views and decadent touches like a wood-burning fireplace and a two-person whirlpool tub; a two-night minimum stay is required. Pros: Beautiful and peaceful pastoral setting, ideal riverfront location, perfect for a serene getaway. Con: A short drive from town.
