A mid-17th-century fishing cabin with dark timbers and a fieldstone fireplace forms the heart of this inn, while several wings and outbuildings have been added over the years, making for quite a complex with a great variety of styles and appointments. The rooms are furnished with antiques and country pieces; many have decks overlooking the water, and some have whirlpool tubs or fireplaces. The nicest rooms are in two adjacent buildings, Harbor Cliffs and Harbor Hill. The dining room ($$$-$$$$; no lunch off-season) has great ocean views. For dinner, start with Maine crab cakes and then try the lobster-stuffed chicken breast, or the scallops Dijon. Ask about various packages and Internet specials. Pros: Many rooms have harbor views, close to beaches and scenic walking trails, some luxury appointments. Cons: Rooms vary greatly in style and appeal, many rooms accessed via stairways (no elevator).
