Turrets, columns, gables, and magnificent woodwork embellish this inn, originally built in 1898 as the home of a local attorney. The inn is named for the jewel-like stained-glass windows in the stairway turret. The gem theme continues in the den, where the ornate rock fireplace is said to include rocks from every one of the contiguous 48 states. Elegant Victorian pieces furnish the rooms: the Opal Room has a marble bath with whirlpool tub, in addition to a French armoire and a four-poster bed. No smoking is allowed in the rooms, but there is a wraparound veranda where you can smoke. No pets are allowed. Pros: This is truly a beautiful place and within easy walking distance to the downtown, with its shops and restaurants. Con: No handicapped-accessible rooms.
