Large luxury hotels are few and far between in this region; motels, B&Bs, and campgrounds are more the norm. Accommodations are generally modest, but many of them sit right on the edge of the ocean. A good share of the B&Bs are in historic Federal or Colonial-style homes that date back to the 1850s and are filled with period antiques. Please note that while many of the smaller accommodations and B&Bs—as well as some of the restaurants and many of the museums—are not air-conditioned, ocean breezes usually keep things amply cool.
