By Car in Brunswick and the Mid-Coast Region

Travelers visiting the Mid-Coast region in summer and early fall may encounter fog, especially on the peninsulas and points of land. It's best to leave headlights on. Fog may stay around all day, or it may burn off by late morning. Winter driving in Maine can be challenging when snow and ice coat the roads. "Black ice" is a special hazard along the coast, as the road may appear clear but is actually covered by a nearly invisible coating of ice. Four-wheel-drive vehicles are recommended for driving in winter. Always carry warm clothing and blankets, as well as food and drinking water in case of an emergency.
