By Bike in Brunswick and the Mid-Coast Region

There are two major bike routes in the Mid-Coast region. The Coastal Route tour goes all the way from Brunswick to Ellsworth, a distance of 187 mi, along the rocky coastline. Some stretches are along heavily traveled roads. You can do a mostly level 5-mi round-trip ride along this route in Brunswick. You begin on Water Street at the west end of the Androscoggin River Bike Path. There are rest rooms along the way and shady spots to rest along the river. The 60-mi Merrymeeting Tour, traversing small hills and one major climb, originates in Bath and travels round-trip to Wiscasset. Along the way you can see the Kennebec River and Merrymeeting Bay, famous for its variety of birds, including several types of ducks.
