Spectacular views of the Gulf of Maine, John's Bay, and Monhegan Island and the sound of crashing surf greet you at this hilltop B&B. The facility is at Christmas Cove, named when explorer Captain John Smith anchored here one Christmas Eve in the early 1600s. Since that time the cove has been a snug harbor for watercraft of all kinds. If you are looking for an oasis away from the crowds, you will enjoy the 11 gorgeous perennial gardens and the fact that this 2.3-acre property is surrounded by a 2-acre greenbelt. The owners' artwork from all over the world adorns the walls. Extensive libraries of books, videos, and DVDs wind around the staircases going up to the cupola towers, and you will even find a couple of pieces of exercise equipment tucked in a corner on the way. The hosts offer afternoon snacks and a selection of wines every evening. If you are looking for the experience of a lifetime, take that glass of wine up two or three floors to the tower, inside or on the outdoor decks. You can see all the way to Monhegan Island. Each of the guest rooms has a four-season electric fireplace, microwave, coffee pot, and two-person jetted bath (plus separate shower). The inn accepts kids and pets—in fact, pets have their own outdoor courtyard. Pros: Amenities, view, grounds, hosts. Con: Dogs on premises.

My husband and I have traveled quite extensively and we have to say the Unique Yankee Inn is the closet place to heaven. We stayed in the Annex House with our 2 golden retrievers and we absolutely loved it. The house is so warm and clean. Richard & Cheryl (the owners) made us feel like family. The day we left we already booked for next year. If you are looking for a beautiful B&B this is the place for you !!
