Housed in a former Coast Guard station, this casual bed-and-breakfast sits on Popham Beach not far from historic Fort Popham. Sun-filled rooms are comfortably furnished. The nicest quarters include the one aptly name Library, where two walls are lined with books, and the Bunkroom, which overlooks the ocean. Stroll along the shore before your two- or three-course breakfast in the former mess hall. Beach chairs and umbrellas, picnic tables, and barbecue grills are available for your use. A casual seafood restaurant is close by, and you can order lunch at a small market. Each room now has its own bath. Pro: Right on Popham Beach. Con: No air-conditioning.
