This destination family resort, spread across 575 acres at the foot of the Phippsburg Peninsula, has an exceptional range of accommodations and services, to which it continues to add. Comfortable guest rooms in the clapboard-covered main building have antique furnishings and new bathrooms, while rooms in a building designed to resemble a lighthouse have wicker furniture, paintings by local artists, and rooftop access. The Fairwinds, a luxury waterfront spa, was added in 2007; prices for room and treatment packages range from $369 to $399. Also added in 2007 was the Harbor Village Suites, set into exquisitely landscaped grounds and featuring 18 spacious and air-conditioned rooms. These units rent for $319-$459. The resort's Pilot House restaurant ($$-$$$) is known for its innovative take on classic dishes. Entrées include haddock stuffed with a trio of scallops, shrimp, and vegetables. Pros: Ocean location; excellent food and service. Con: Pricey.
