A riverside location and an excellent dining room make this country inn a classic. All the guest rooms are filled with antiques and decorated with sumptuous fabrics; some rooms have fireplaces and whirlpool baths. On pleasant mornings, breakfast is served on the back deck overlooking the river. The dining room ($$$$), which is open to the public by reservation, serves six-course meals and is open Tuesday through Saturday in season. The emphasis is on local seafood. Pros: Innkeepers' reception evenings with cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. Con: Away from town.
