Port Clyde

Port Clyde

The fishing village of Port Clyde sits at the end of the St. George Peninsula. The road leading to Port Clyde meanders along the St. George River, passing meadows and farmhouses. Shipbuilding was the first commercial enterprise here, and later the catching and canning of seafood. You can still buy Port Clyde sardines. Port Clyde's boat landing is home to the Elizabeth Ann and the Laura B, the mail boats that serve nearby Monhegan Island. Several artists make their homes in Port Clyde, so check to see if their studios are open while you are visiting.
