The Mid-Coast offers accommodations ranging from oceanfront cabins to elegant bed-and-breakfasts to seaside resorts. Many of the most interesting lodgings are former sea captains' or shipbuilders' homes, beautifully restored and furnished with period pieces. From Memorial Day through Labor Day, rates rise, many of the pricier places require a two-night minimum stay, and reservations are advised. Most accommodations have air-conditioning and cable TV, and many now have Internet access. At the lower end of the scale, you can still find clean, comfortable rooms with basic amenities. Stunning views can crop up in any of the price ranges. Most B&Bs in Maine do not allow smoking on the property.
