Opened in June 2007 as a hotel, restaurant, and wood-oven pizza specialist, this establishment has had solid success, especially as a restaurant offering top value. Its location is in an unusual building, resembling, as its name suggests, an architectural hybrid between a barn and a castle. Designed in 1890 by architect George Clough, Boston's first city architect, the wooden conical towers and turrets around the open drive-through carport create a whimsical Loire-meets-Maine effect. The pizzas ($-$$$) are excellent, as is the selection of salads and sandwiches. Rooms are quirky and rambling but charming. Pro: Views over woodlands to Mount Desert. Cons: Landlocked and facing Blue Hill's fastest and least-appealing thoroughfare.
