Inside the stucco-and-timber walls of this traditional Tudor cottage, antiques are juxtaposed with contemporary country pieces; vibrant color with French country wallpapers; and abstract art with folk creations. The combination not only works—it shines. Though the property is small, rooms are large with ample windows; many have fireplaces, and some have decks. Breakfast is an elaborate multicourse affair. The popular "A Yellow House" across the drive has six additional rooms decorated in traditional old Bar Harbor style. Pro: Lovely setting. Con: No views from rooms.

We just returned from a two night stay at Ullikana and are incredulous that this is a Fodors' choice. We rely on Fodors for accurate evaluations. Certainly this "choice" was made years ago.
Although a wonderful location with a nice spartan gourmet breakfast, and helpful staff, the room fell far short of what $360 should buy mid-week after Labor day. (One should consider Bar Harbor Inn instead.)
The room carpet was dirty, sink missing a drain stopper, one hand and bath towel per person, no hair dryer/robe, wall paper was gapping at seams and discolored, sheets were very wrinkled. This was not a 5-star property. Our deck view of the bay did not have one...although we were promised it did, small patches of blue could be seen through the trees. The windows need a washing. The fire alarm went off twice one night, there did not seem to be any on-sight management.
Although an interesting and historic property this over hyped and over priced Inn is up for a re-do and a good cleaning.

Stayed in the Yellow House recently. All of the staff was warm and welcoming. The location in Bar Harbor can't be beat! Evening wine and cheese with fellow guests is really charming. Breakfast was out of this world!!! And Roy's knowlege of the island and hikes is amazing! We will defintely stay here again.
