Elegant but casual, this lodging is close to the harbor. Built in 1870 as part of the island's first summer hotel, the inn has tastefully decorated rooms that are named after different kinds of boats. All have private bathrooms, most with steam showers or whirlpool tubs. A carriage house is also available. The nearby oceanfront property, Pier One, has four suites and one cottage rented by the week. Pros: Good location, easy walk to the harbor, the suite is handicapped accessible. Con: Breakfast is early (between 8 and 9 AM).

My husband and I have been vacationing at the Harbour Cottage Inn since 1991 for our Honeymoon. We have been coming back ever since and our daughter loves being here as much as we do. The inn is very friendly and the breakfasts extremely delicious! The rolling lawn is fun for reading book or to watch your children run around and play. The location is very quite with only a "stones throw" away from the ocean/harbor for relaxing walks. We highly recommend the Harbour Cottage Inn as a wonderful retreat while one explores Mt. Desert Island and all its beauty.
