Originally established in the late 1800s as a men's social club, this waterfront inn has rooms spread among three buildings on well-landscaped grounds. Rooms in the Oceanfront Lodge have private decks overlooking the ocean, and many of those in the main building have balconies overlooking the harbor. Most rooms also have gas fireplaces. A luxury spa offers everything from massages and mud wraps to aromatherapy and facials. A terrific upscale restaurant, the Reading Room,
serves Continental fare along with Maine specialties such as lobster pie and Indian pudding. There's live music here nightly in season. The outdoor Terrace Grill serves a lobster bake with all the fixings.
