Side Trips from New Orleans Sights

Butler Greenwood Plantation

Butler Greenwood Plantation Review

This home has been occupied by the same family since its construction in the 1790s, and the ninth generation owns it today. Its appearance is much simpler than that of the Greek Revival mansions, whose style was prevalent in the 1830s and '40s. Original family documents provide an intimate picture of day-to-day life. The tour focuses on details such as dress (several items of clothing worn by the family's ancestors are on display) and china (a beautiful set has been in the family for generations). The home remains family owned and operated, and the tour is run by a member of the Butler family. Eight cottages are available for overnight stays.
