New Orleans Nightlife

The Sazerac Bar

Updated 04/10/2014

Fodor's Review

One of the most famous bars in Louisiana, this art deco gem and slinger of fine libations has a lineage that dates back to the mid-19th century. Drawn to the signature Sazerac cocktails and Ramos Gin Fizzes, a famous and intriguing clientele has graced this hotel bar over the years, including Governor Huey P. Long, who in the 1930s built a 90-mi highway between New Orleans and the state capital, so, many believe, he could get directly to the hotel lounge for his signature drink.

The Sazerac Bar Review

Tried it on a Friday evening, but it was packed. Went back on a Sunday afternoon. Very peaceful at that time. We sampled the Ramos Gin Fizz, and Sazerac (of course). Bartender (Tim) was very knowledgeable on cocktail history. Another must go place for vintage cocktail buffs.
