Buttermilk fried chicken

Nola Review

Fans of Emeril Lagasse will want to grab a seat at the food bar overlooking the open kitchen at this French Quarter restaurant. Freewheeling appetizers are among the big attractions, the standout being "Miss Hay's stuffed chicken wings" with hoisin dipping sauce. Entrées, such as the hickory-roasted duck with whiskey-caramel glaze and buttermilk-cornbread pudding, are heavy but delicious. Be warned: after a few bites of the buttermilk fried chicken with bourbon mashed sweet potatoes, you may start looking for property in New Orleans. Leave room in your tummy, and heart, for the banana-pudding layer cake. The space is arty and bright, but it can get pretty noisy.

NOT Good, Emmil should be ashamed

on July 14,2007 Crab cakes were salty and did not taste of crab. oyster bisque was bad, arugala sald was very small and salty, red fish was ok, shrip with grits average. I was excited when I started and now will nvere eat in another Emmirrils. I think he has left the city as well

    The best!

I had a great time visiting the city and some great dining experiences. However, the meal at Nola took it to another level. It was truly the best meal and best dining experience. The food was perfect, not too salty, not too much, the flavors were true to form. The service was exceptional, the staff was so friendly and prompt. If the highest level of service and quality is what you seek, find Nola and you won't be disappointed.

    What a letdown

I loved this place and hold Emeril responsible for its demise. He has completely dropped the ball at this establishment. The food was less then mediocre. A special of scallops and house made cappelini tasted like canned chef boy ardee - not kidding! The $38 filet was tasteless and the sides were like a badly catered wedding a dismal stuffed mushroom and garlic mashed - pedestrian at best. The service was completely off. Waiting for water, waiting for bread, waiting to be acknowledged by anyone. We were invisible before and after being served what was a huge waste of money.

    Living on old reputation

I wasn't impressed with the food at Nola at all. I have a lot of food allergies and it tells me a lot about the kitchen when they can't modify anything to accommodate me. It smacks of pre-made food and no actual chef in the kitchen. So I had to really limit what I could have because, for instance, they couldn't serve me rice without butter on it. That would seem easy enough to handle; just make a new batch! One member of my party had a steak that was literally unchewable. One had the grits that were awful. Greasy, no flavor, overcooked. Being in the south, grits should be a no-brainer. These were hard; clearly overcooked. The service, on the other hand, was terrific. Unfortunately, you don't eat the service (unless maybe you're the star of the Vampire Tour), so I can't recommend this. At all. There are so many awesome restaurants in New Orleans that there's no need to spend your money on a several years old reputation. Go instead to Muriel's for fancy or Acme Oyster House for the most awesome seafood in a bar atmosphere. By the way, nothing in our long weekend beat the food and service at Acme. Tragically, it was the first place we went, so we were shooting for a match the whole time. I'll still watch Emeril's shows, but I don't think I'll bother with any of his restaurants again, unless maybe I knew he was personally cooking my food.
