Book NowChateau Bourbon Review
John Kennedy Toole's comic masterpiece, A Confederacy of Dunces, begins under the clock of D.H. Holmes department store on Canal Street, now this well-maintained upscale hotel; in Toole's honor, the clock and a statue of the novel's antihero, Ignatius J. Reilly, remain. Rooms at the hotel are large, with high ceilings and neutral decor; some have columns and beams, remnants of the original building. Balcony rooms overlook Bourbon Street, Dauphine Street, or one of two exterior and one interior courtyards. Three suites with whirlpool baths surround an atrium. The hotel dining room, Tempo, is open only for breakfast.

Jchamp, from Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Hotel under construction. Our AAA rate was $269. for 12/30/2011 - 1/2/2012. A large part of the hotel is under construction which affects all entrances. We were given one of the new rooms, which smelled heavily of paint & varnish - it took about 1 minute to know it was not healthy for us to be in that room. We opened the doors to the balcony, so we could breathe fresh air, only to see all the construction mess - so there also, is no courtyard. We were moved to an older part of the hotel, told that it was a king room but that they could provide us fee of charge a rollaway bed (it was my son and I). We accepted. The bed was not king, but queen size. The TV is not 32” but 24”. I just don’t know why they lie like this. The 3rd day(we stayed overnight x 3 – which was required for New Years), we asked for clean sheets for one of the beds and I'm surprised they didn't call the president -- made a very big deal of supplying us with a clean set of sheets. The coffee pot did not work - asked for a replacement -- - never got one while we were there. Floor lamp and alarm clock didn’t work, either. Our balcony was facing the street -- facing The Astor Hotel, and 1 block from Bourbon - with all the left over New Year's traffic - all night - that was ok, also. We knew that. The garbage trucks run every hour - emptying all the trash and clanging & banging.... The Good: When this hotel is completed, it will be awesome, the location is awesome. Down the street from Dickie Brennan's, Acme Oysters, across the street from Deanie's + Red Fish Grill is part of the hotel. The bar & breakfast areas are very nice. The Rm. service food was yummy. The hotel staff tried very hard -- went out of their way to make us comfortable, xcept One gent, I guess the Mgr. on duty;, got a little huffy when I told him I was not told the hotel was under construction - he said something stupid like, well, if you had asked for me, I would have told you. I'm positive the hotel staff was instructed not to say anything about the construction.
