Fodor's Review:
A fashion for Colonial Revival architecture in the late 19th century indicated local weariness with the excesses of the Greek Revival craze that had dominated the mid-century. Anthemion, built in 1896 and the headquarters of the Japanese consulate from 1938 to 1941, is an excellent example of this return to simplicity.
